QUICKLY DRAW AN HOURGLASS IN 8 SIMPLE STEPS
You're here to draw an hourglass, so let's go. Here's a simple 8 step tutorial that will allow you to make an hourglass drawing no matter what your level of drawing! All you need is a pencil, a sheet of paper, a ruler, and a few colored pencils to color the drawing!
STEP 1: THE OUTLINE
The first step is simple, using your ruler, draw a clean rectangle. It will determine the size of your hourglass.
STEP 2: THE CROSS
By hand, draw a cross inside your rectangle. It will help you to set the proportions for the containers in your hourglass.
STEP 3: THE FRAMEWORK
Using your ruler, draw both ends of the frame of your hourglass. For more roundness in your design, you can round off the edges as shown in the diagram.
STEP 4: THE CONTAINER HOOKS
Now you will draw two small rectangles under the ends of the hourglass. If you have chosen rounded curves in the previous step, maintain this dynamic.
STEP 5: THE LEFT-HAND CONTAINER
In this step, we will use our cross from step 2 to get the right proportions. As on diagram N°5, connect the two rectangles of step N°4 by a curve, which will form the left container of the hourglass.
STEP 6: THE RIGHT CONTAINER
Now you're going to do the same thing on the other side. Use your cross from step 2 to respect the correct proportions and obtain a beautiful drawing.
STEP 7: THE PERSPECTIVE
In this penultimate step, you will give a depth effect to your hourglass to make it more real. Draw as on the diagram the corresponding hourglass lines step 7
STEP 8: LET YOUR CREATIVITY SPEAK FOR ITSELF
Bravo! You now have the bases of an hourglass. You can now add the details that look like you, by customizing the hourglass to your liking, for example with colours and a few more effects depending on your level.
